SIBO Recipe | Gut Friendly Green Smoothie

Need a SIBO recipe to help you through your gut healing protocol? Or maybe you’re just looking for a low sugar, gut friendly smoothie to get you through those busy mornings. Either way, this SIBO recipe is for you!

Gut healing protocol 2.0 has presented many challenges but something I have dearly missed is my morning fruit smoothies. Keeping things low sugar is super important while I heal the gut which means little to no fruit but that doesn’t mean I can’t still make a mean green smoothie and I am going to show you exactly how with this SIBO recipe.

Gut healing green smoothie goodness for busy mornings

When it comes to ingredients, these are the exact ingredients I use to get that sugar free, sweet green smoothie filled with gut loving goodness!

Nuts – macadamias and walnuts are on the safe list for a low FODMAP / SIBO diet so I have been using both interchangeably but in this blend I felt like walnuts – they are also cheaper than my beloved macadamias. I have been buying organic walnuts from our local markets each Sunday which makes for a nice Sunday walk with bae.

Bone broth Concentrate – yes you did read that right, we are adding bone broth concentrate to our SIBO recipe smoothie. I LOVE and use daily the natural (unflavoured) bone broth concentrate which is unflavoured. I promise you do not taste one tiny bit of bone broth in your smoothie (or coffee) but you do receive all of beneficial amino acids that will work wonders for your hair, skin, nails and gut health!

Greens powder – I know, I know, it can be hard to get those greens in and some people like to use a greens powder. My favourites are the Melrose Essentials Greens Powder and Garden of Life Greens powder.

Both are CLEAN and do not contain sweeteners, which I think is best so that you can choose your own. A lot of greens powders are filled with crap to be honest and sweetened with a blend of stevia and erythritol, the latter (erythritol) is something we are typically told to avoid on a gut healing protocol. This isn’t an issue with either of these greens powders.

Puffed Buckwheat – I purchase this from my favourite bulk wholefoods store in Newtown, Naked Foods or online from Amazon. If you don’t have a access to puffed buckwheat, puffed brown rice tastes just as good and is available in most supermarkets. Be sure to buy PLAIN puffed brown rice with no other ingredients added. Leave out the puffs for a keto friendly smoothie recipe.

PURE Monk Fruit Extract – This is not your usual monk fruit sweetener. READ THAT AGAIN! This is PURE monk fruit extract which means you only need a tincey, tiny, wincey, wee, little bit to sweeten things up. 1/8 tsp to be exact. Yes, I use my 1/8 measuring spoon every day for this because that is all that is needed. PSA: This is the sweetener you need if you are going to heal your gut! If you are about to embark on a gut healing journey, you will need to sacrifice the usual erythritol containing sweeteners (ie Monk fruit you buy in the supermarket) but the good news is you can safely replace them with this life changing healthy sugar alternative. This ingredient is absolutely necessary to make this SIBO recipe. Australians can Shop Monk Fruit Extract here and save with code BLONDE10 and anyone in the USA can find pure monk fruit extract here

Filtered Water – We use our water filter religiously because the statistics on tap water are disgusting (literally). It’s estimated we would consume half a kilogram of plastic each year without using a water filter – SCANDALOUS! I bought our filter jug + a pack of 3 filter cartridges from Heppi and have never looked back. They are reasonably priced (free shipping yay) and even send you reminders when you need to change the filter which is fabulous because let’s be honest, who will ever remember to change it every 3 months?? NOT ME! Use code BLONDE for 10% off.

Reusable Glass Straw – Not an essential ingredient for this SIBO recipe but key to making your smoothie look beautiful is a reusable glass straw from Seastraws. I buy all of my smoothie straws from this small Australian business. The owner is absolutely lovely and every purchase contributes to saving the Great Barrier Reef. Save 10% with code BLONDE.

Ingredients for this SIBO Recipe Smoothie

  • 30g walnuts
  • 2-3 tsp unflavoured bone broth
  • 2 tsp greens powder
  • 1/2 cup puffed buckwheat or puffed brown rice (optional)
  • 1 serve (30g) bovine collagen
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp pure monk fruit extract
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 1/2 cup filtered water

Blend it all up until smooth and enjoy this simple SIBO recipe. If there is anything gut healing protocol 2.0 has taught me, it is that we don’t need fruit in every single smoothie to have a good time!

Notes

*Be sure to use an ‘unflavoured’ bone broth concentrate. They usually have a slightly salty taste but nothing that will affect the taste of your SIBO smoothie.

On that note, my Nutribullet shat itself a couple of weeks ago, it was actually my second. I find they only have a 2 year lifespan if you use them every single day like me. Rather then go for round 3, I thought I would try something new and purchased a Ninja Foodi Power Nutri Duo from Catch and WOW this thing is powerful. It makes thick AF smoothie bowls and nice creams like a boss without signs of blowing up any time soon! I bought through Shopback for extra savings (cash back). If you sign up to Shopback using my referral code we both receive free money in our Shopback accounts :). Shopback Referral Code – teWAiB
