How to Cook Sausages in the Oven

Trust me when I say that this guide on how to cook sausages in the oven, is life changing. I realize this may sound exaggerated but it really isn’t. All of my friends who are mothers have texted me to say just how fantastic it is to bake your sausages instead of pan frying them and thanked me for showing them this new way of life…

Which Sausages are the Healthiest?

I am often asked which sausages are the healthiest to buy or are sausages healthy in general? Now, I believe health is individual, so what is healthy for one may not be considered healthy for the other, but I do strongly believe that when it comes to consuming any type of meat, we should aim for it to be grass fed.

I have noticed in the supermarket there are grass fed sausages available which is great. I prefer to purchase meat products from a local butcher to support small business but also know that I am supporting a local farm. Not all sausages at every butcher are grass fed, usually there will be a sign stating if they are in fact, grass fed but if you are unsure, ask!

I also highly recommend speaking to your butcher about the farms from which their meat is sourced. They should be able to tell you about the farms and where they are. Ideally, you want to be buying meat that is sourced from farms within the same state in which you live. Remember that as the customer you have every right to ask questions about a product you are potentially going to purchase. If a butcher can’t tell you where their nest is sourced from and west the farms are like, then to me this indicates a BUG red flag.

  • TENDER MEAT:I love the way that baked sausages have a nice tender inside and well cooked outer that is nice and brown but also ever so slightly crispy.

Yes, you can definitely bake all types of sausages in the oven. I have tried baking lamb, beef chicken and pork sausages and they have all turned out perfectly delicious. See below my recommendations for varying bake times based on different styles of sausages can be cooked in the oven.

How to Cook Sausages in the Oven

  • Small thin sausages: 20 minutes. Flip half way.
  • Large thin sausages: 20-25 minutes. Flip half way.
  • Thick sausages: 30 minutes total. Flip half way through.

It is really that simple guys, this is how to cook sausages in the oven, there are tricks but there is A LOT less clean up mess.

Perhaps this is because my husband is Italian, but I am a big fan of the pork, chilli and fennel combination.

Second to that, I have ordered some divine lamb, feta and pine nut sausages online from an ethical butcher service we often use and they were insanely good! Writing this actually reminds me, I should order a new delivery soon. I love having sausages in the freezer as they are such an easy dinner (especially if you bake them) and they freeze very well.
